Mr. Tracy Ward Carter, age 84, of Blackshear, passed away Saturday afternoon (9/16/23) at the Hospice Satilla Hospice House following an extended illness.
Born October 23, 1938, in Blackshear, he was a son of the late David Ward and Beatrice Clemons Carter. He lived all his life in Pierce County and was a graduate of Blackshear High School. He retired as a machinist from CSX Transportation following 37 years of service and had worked for Davis Feed and Sauls Feed for several years. He enjoyed being a Peewee Coach, listening to the Pierce County Bears and Georgia Bulldog games, and was of the Baptist faith.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 2 sisters, Glenda Carter and Juanita Manders; and a brother, Lloyd Carter.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Wanda Dowdy Carter of Blackshear; 2 daughters, Dawn Harrison (husband Tony) of Alma and Christi Campbell (husband Jim) of Jacksonville, FL; 6 grandchildren, Kevin Harrison (fiancé Serena Strickland), Hope Parker (husband Dillon), Stephen Harrison, Kate Cline (husband Craig), Leigh Ann Tuten, and Sheridan Tuten; 2 great grandchildren, Addison Aycock and Maggie Cline; 2 sisters, Marilyn Chancey (husband Glynn) and Laverne Waters, both of Blackshear; 1 brother, Jimmy Carter of Blackshear; and many nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
A funeral service will take place Tuesday morning (9/19/23) at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Hart Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Oakland Cemetery in Waycross.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday one hour prior to the service.
