Velma Jerrell (Murray) Cason

Mrs. Velma Jerrell Murray Cason, age 75, of Patterson, passed away late Saturday night (7/16/22) at HCA Florida Memorial Hospital in Jacksonville following a short illness.

Born December 22, 1946, in Baxley, Georgia, she was a daughter of the late James Stephen and Pearlie Mae Thornton Murray. She lived most of her life in Pierce County and had worked for 20 years at Julie Hat Company and then as a housewife. She was a member of Big Creek Primitive Baptist Church and was the former Treasurer and a Deaconess.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two great grandchildren, Will Foreman and Isla Sauls; a sister and brother-in-law, Virginia and Cornelius Howard; and 3 brothers and sisters-in-law, Frank and Scecila Murray, Carroll and Berniece Murray, and Joe and Eula Murray.

Survivors include her husband of 58 years, Kenneth Ray Cason of Patterson; daughter and son-in-law, Regina and Rodney Johnson of Offerman; 2 sons and daughters-in-law, Curtis and Tina Cason of Patterson and Scott and Cindy Cason of Offerman; 6 grandchildren, Jordan M. Simpson (husband Keith) of Patterson, Chelsea Sauls (husband Jake) of Register, GA, Erin Foreman (husband Justin) of Blackshear, Erica Tyler (husband Philip) of Texas, Brooke Strickland (husband Hunter) of Blackshear, and Jamie Cason of Offerman; 7 great grandchildren, Judson Foreman, Greyson Foreman, Brooklynn Tyler, Braylee Tyler, Rhylan Tyler, Aubrey Kate Sauls, and Brynlee Sauls; sister, Minnie Cade of Blackshear; three brothers, Willard Murray of West Palm Beach, FL, Orville & Donna Murray of Offerman, and Claude & Linda Murray of Blackshear; a sister-in-law, Winifred Murray of Waycross; and many nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

A funeral service will take place on Wednesday (7/20/20) at 11 a.m. at Big Creek Primitive Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the Big Creek Cemetery.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday evening from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
