Mrs. Wilma Jean Townsend Popwell, age 75, of Blackshear, passed away Sunday night (3/14/21) at her residence following an extended illness.
Born August 12, 1945 in Meridian, Mississippi, she was a daughter of the late Roy Alvin Townsend and Verna Mae Hodgins Shock. She moved with her family as a young girl to Sylvester, GA and had lived in Callahan, Florida and Hortense, GA for many years before moving to Blackshear in 2019. She was a housewife and of the Baptist faith.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Kelly Popwell; her sisters, Pauline Reed and Patricia Coker; and two brothers, Roy Alvin Townsend and William Edward Townsend.
Survivors include her husband, Horace “Mike” Popwell of Blackshear; 3 children, Keith Popwell of Blackshear, Lisa Hain (husband James) of Orlando, FL, and Benjamin Popwell (wife Rebecca) of Warner Robins, GA; 2 grandchildren, Kayla Popwell Aldridge (husband Ben) of Patterson and Matthew Popwell of Warner Robins; 3 brothers, Robert Terry Townsend, Ernest Wayne Townsend, and Harvey C. Townsend, all of Mississippi; and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Memorialization is by cremation.
