Mr. C. Lambert Lamkin, Jr., age 91, of Blackshear, died Thursday morning (May 10, 2012) at his residence following an extended illness.

Mr. Lamkin was born October 27, 1920 in Valdosta, GA to the Late Clarence Lambert Lamkin, Sr. and the Late Septima Inez Tait Lamkin. He lived most of his life in Waycross and Blackshear where he worked with ACL Railroad for 13 years as a telegrapher before buying Lamkins Nursery in Blackshear in 1952. He was also a Golf Pro and Greenskeeper at Lakeview Golf Course and Riverside Golf Course.  He was a member of First Baptist Church of Blackshear where he served as Minister of Music for 28 years and also taught Sunday School for 30 years. He also played the saxophone and was a member of “Men of Note”.  Mr. Lamkin was also a veteran, having served in the US Navy during World War II.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife: Yvonne Bunting Lamkin; a sister: Doris Lamkin Dorminey and a brother and sister-in-law: Bill and Henri Mae Lamkin.

Mr. Lamkin is survived by a daughter: Lori Buchanan (husband Kenneth L.) of Blackshear; a son: Michael Eric Lamkin of Blackshear; a grandson: Christopher Buchanan of Blackshear; a brother: Bob Lamkin (Johnnie) of Tallahassee, FL; a sister-in-law: Virginia Bunting of Atlanta; a niece: Babs Hillick and a nephew: Mark Hillick, both of Atlanta; and other relatives.

A memorial service will be held Monday evening at 7 PM in the chapel of Hart Funeral Home with Dr. Bill Young officiating. Burial will take place at a later date in Greenlawn Cemetery.

The family will be receiving friends one hour prior to the service Monday evening at the funeral home.
