Mrs. Mildred King Luke, age 99, of Blackshear, died Friday afternoon (12/26/14) at the Pierce County Nursing Home following an extended illness.

A lifelong resident of Blackshear, she was born October 6, 1915 to the late Timothy Everett and Sarah Ann King.  She was an honor graduate of Blackshear High School and Perry Business College of Brunswick.  She had worked as a sales clerk for Morel’s Pharmacy.

A charter member of Emmanuel Baptist Church, she was also a member of the Senior Adult Ladies Sunday School Class and enjoyed attending the Saints of Joy group.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Rev. Desso Luke; 3 sisters, Maude King, Nola King Roberson (brother-in-law I.W.), and Sarah King Lane (brother-in-law Tommy); and 3 brothers, E.J. King, Talmadge King, and Claude King.

Survivors include 3 sons, Travis Luke (wife Brenda) of Blackshear, Everett Luke (wife Bobbie) of Jacksonville, FL, and Jerry Luke of Blackshear; 5 grandchildren, Brandie Luke Britt of Waycross, Emilie Harrell (husband Brooks) of Blackshear, Justin Luke (wife Andrea) of Norfolk, VA, Jimmy Luke and Gay Brock, both of Jacksonville, FL; 12 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren; 1 sister, Theta Bryant of Houston, Texas; 2 sister-in-laws, Mattie King of Waycross and Edith King of Blackshear; and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

A funeral service will take place Monday at 2 PM in the chapel of Hart Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Shiloh Cemetery in Blackshear.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Pierce County Nursing Home Family Council, 221 Carter Avenue, Blackshear, GA 31516.
